What is domestic abuse?
Domestic abuse is when a person acts aggressively or violently towards their spouse, cohabiting partner, relative or other parent of their child.
Types of behaviour which can be classed as domestic abuse include:
- Emotional and verbal abuse (name calling, humiliation, etc)
- Sexual abuse
What help can a Lawyer provide against Domestic Abuse?
A lawyer can get a Court ordered injunction against your abuser. An Injunction instructs someone to stop doing something, such as being violent towards you, and can also stop them from coming within a certain distance of you or your home, if necessary.
If your abuser then breaches an injunction, they may be arrested or imprisoned, depending on the type of injunction involved.
There are a number of different types of Court orders available and we will advise you on the most suitable one for your circumstances.
